GUST in Brazil

Lea Fuenfschilling presented some of the core ideas of the GUST project at the second conference of the World Interdisciplinary Network for Institutional Research (WINIR) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 10-12 September 2015. The event has brought together leading scholars from multiple disciplines and theoretical approaches to help develop new insights into institutions, development and globalization (conference theme). Lea specifically talked about opportunities and challenges for radical institutional change in urban settings. Due to their increasing dominance regarding energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions or population growth, urban spaces have been identified as particularly relevant loci for sustainable development. However, the specific features of urban spaces and their consequences for institutional change have so far rather been neglected. Her presentation thus reflected on some of the most important characteristics of cities, and their relevance for sustainability transitions.
